On November 21, 2015 took place the Russia's first big conference about Linux as an ecosystem.
Staff of EMS corporation became ideological inspirers of the conference. Intention to create an event of such scale and level appeared after visiting some international Linux-conferences in America and Europe. Forming program committee was the first important step on the way of creating big domestic Linux-conference. Several representatives of EMC company, those who initiated this, entered it directly: Alexander Akopyan who in consequence became the chairman of program committee; Vasily Tolstoy, he made the report at the conference; and Dmitry Krivenok who also made very interesting presentation. Then we invited Alexander Chistyakov to our program committee, he is one of the most famous and authoritative person in Linux-community in Russia; Pavel Frolov, publisher of IT edition "Linux Format"; Kirill Krinkin, the associate professor of a computer of LETI, and also Dmitry Kostiuk, the associate professor of a computer of the Brest GTU, the co-organizer of LVEE which became the mainspring of the Linux Piter conference.
The main challenge for program committee was to understand usefulness for the conference of each report which we got for consideration. Besides, we also actively looked for and invited speakers from around the world. No marketing, sales and PR, the requirement to all was the same: to tell how the product works from within and how it develops.
Traditionally for IT-Sobytie, conference took place in Original Sokos Hotel OlympiaGarden. In the beginning we planned that conference will take two parallel tracks of talks. However, in the last month we received a lot of interesting applications we couldn't refuse to, so the 3rd additional track of talks came on. In the first track mainly English-speaking speakers took the floor and several Russian-speaking, whose reports were simultaneously translated into English for foreign guests.
Headliners of the conference became: Daniel Nagy (Managing director ePoint Systems) Ltd. from Hungary, representatives of American industry John Ronciak (SW Architect Intel) and Allen Hubbe (Software engineer EMC), and also Russians from Germany (Ilya Kosmodemyansky) and Turkey (Sveta Smirnova).
We held such conference for the first time, mainly test the waters, tried to satisfy interest of audience, including talks on different subjects. And judging by an assessment of talks by participants, we managed to create worthy event for the Linux-community world. Out of 19 reports only 3 received an assessment lower than 4 points (out of 5 possible). Besides, we received many good comments including participants who are constantly visiting European Linux conferences with comments that level of talks and the organization really corresponds to big international events, may be even higher.
We present you top ten reports of conference (difference between the first and 10th only 0,44 points):
